John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs that he wrote, many of them set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and then moved to Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his new state brought many people to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said that John Denver was by far one of the top performers who embodies Colorado. Denver was the one of the first Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. Many consider Denver to be the image of Colorado. In my travels, I've met people from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell them you're from Colorado the first words they'll say is"Oh John Denver. Brown said. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief career performing in small folk bands comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the track for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the potential of the single when he first heard it. The song was performed in Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver recorded it just days afterward.
